Oh Christmas Tree... Oh Christmas Tree... How do I put you up?

Ok, so for all of you experts out there, what do you do to prevent injuries with an 8 month old and a Christmas tree? I saw this as an example of how to avoid children breaking ornaments and I have to say, I am just not in to a halfway decorated tree.
I would love for my tree to look this good...
I have heard the advice about putting the breakable ones up high and all of that. I think I am more concerned about Lucy McLean pulling the whole darn thing down. Any suggestions?
P.S. We had a fabuluous Thanksgiving and enjoyed a great time with our families. Of course we have 5,000 pictures of Lucy McLean and we forgot to take our camera with us for Thanksgiving. So, just trust us when we say she looked as adorable as always and enjoyed being loved on by everyone over the break!

Hey! Our first Christmas year with Tyler we fully decorated our tree. He would crawl up to it, but he never really played with it much. (and he was exactly, (to the day) the same age as Miss Lucy) Now THIS year, we'll have to do some strategic planning, since he feels so inclined to touch EVERYTHING he sees, and most assuredly will attempt to pull it down. I think this year will be safe for you to fully decorate the tree! (Mom said for our 2nd Christmas she tied the tree with strings to the windows)~Kristen

Jakob's first Christmas he didn't mess too much with the tree. he was a month younger than LM but was content to just be near it and watch the lights. We didn't put too many decorations hanging from the bottom and created a sort of barrier with the presents, you should be good this year. Next year Look out! I have tied the tree to the staircase as well and that seemed to work. Plus using plastic decorations instead of glass and we made edible cookie ornaments one year bc I just couldn't keep Jakob out of the tree, plus it smelled really good.

Marley was seven and a half months her first Christmas. She would roll under it and we would just let her lay there bc she was in awe of how huge it was! Not to mentions it made really cute pictures:) Obviously, we stayed near:) We have our tree in a corner and Martha Stewart (Bless her soul) has unbreakable ornaments so we have those kind of balls on our tree. Now that she is two she likes to squeeze behind the tree and hide! She is only allowed to touch with one finger, and actually does a great job!
